Mental Health Act (MHA)
Implementing the Amended Mental Health Act in the South West
The Mental Health Act Amendments Have Now Received Royal Assent.
In July 2007, several amendments to the Mental Health Act were agreed by parliament. These wide ranging changes will have significant implications for both the way services are run and how they are experienced by service users and carers.
CSIP/NIMHE has been tasked by the Department of Health with roles in informing those involved of the coming changes, supporting implementation by service providers, directly and by signposting sources of information.
In response, CSIP/NIMHE has created a national implementation programme, with delivery on the ground channeled through CSIP's 8 Regional Development Centres, including CSIP South West.
The South Wests Local Implementation Plan (LIP) is available to download here. This sets out a plan for implementing the amended mental health legislation announced by the Government in November 2006 in the South West.
CSIP's Lead in the South West for implementation of the amended Act is David Pennington.
National Website
The national website for the implementation programme is here. This contains the latest news, information about the work CSIP is undertaking nationally - including Advocacy, Supervised Community Treatment, Workforce, Training and Administration.
